1.1 Between the Episodes: Reflection & Coming Next

One of the parts of publishing a podcast that was surprising to me was how scary it can feel to put yourself out in the world without seeing the faces and the reactions on the other side. I knew I was going to explore tough, complex topics and might make some missteps. I had to get comfortable just doing it anyway and being willing to adjust along the process. After all, I knew going in…I don’t have all the answers to the topics I am exploring; I have some experience and a degree that covers the content in many of the topics, but we are all incomplete in our knowledge, even when we have expertise. I want the engagement. I want dissenting viewpoints. I want to hear extensions into other fields. I have an assortment of guests lined up to help fill those gaps and/or increase clarity around the topics, and I’d love to hear from listeners about their unique perspectives (inside or outside the field of education).

I sent the episode to a variety of people before publishing to gather multiple perspectives. One thing I learned is that the issues I’m tackling are not isolated to education. The question I am exploring for episode 2 (coming next month) is How Can We Create a Thriving Culture? I’ve already had some people who listened to the first episode reaching out from other fields (multiple from the medical field!), sharing that they are experiencing similar issues; what’s happening in education seems to have problems that extend through workplaces in multiple fields, so I’m hoping to keep growing a rich community to grow with together.
